Issuance of Notices.

The National Elections Commission (NEC) of the Republic of Liberia will issue acceptance notices to parties and independent aspirants who applied to contest in the 2005 Elections on Saturday, August 13, 2005 at the YMCA, Broad Street, starting at 8.30am.

Reasons for rejections ranged from failure to submit applications by some Vice Presidential candidates to signature requirements not being met for independent candidates.

 

Campaign period.

The period for successful applicants in the 2005 Elections to campaign will begin on Monday, August 15. This exercise is to end on Sunday, October 9, 2005. 

 

Rulings on Dual Citizenship.

The NEC has issued rulings on potential candidates whose eligibility to run was being challenged based on issues raised about their citizenship. Challenges against George Weah, Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), and Marcus Dahn, Alliance for Peace and Democracy (ADP), have been rejected.   The processing of challenges submitted more recently is underway and the Commission will issue all remaining verdicts once the procedures for determination are completed.

 

The NEC will hold a press conference on Monday August 15, at 3p.m. to announce the kick-off of the nationwide campaign for the October 2005 Elections
