REPLACING YOUR LOST VOTER’S CARDS June 9th, 2011

The National Elections Commission (NEC) has set June 13 to 27, 2011as the time for registered Liberian voters who lost or damaged their voter’s cards to replace them at no cost.

The NEC has also declared that “if you have lost or damaged your voting cards, and do not replace them during this period (June 13-27, 2011), you will not be able to vote in the 2011 Referendum and Elections.” Hence, it is a national duty on the part of all Liberians to form part of this year’s elections throughout the length and breadth of Liberia. It means you love your country Liberia when you fully participate in the election process of your nation. As such, Article 3.5 of the Liberian elections law requires the NEC to replace lost or damaged cards of registered voters.

In a nutshell, all Liberians of voting age, who have lost or damaged their cards will have the opportunity to have them replaced thus enabling them to exercise their franchise by forming part of the voting population this year. If you fall in this category of individuals who lost or damaged their cards, the best way to benefit in getting a new voter’s card is to proceed to the Magistrate office that your voter’s Registration center is under. At the Magistrate’s office, you must present yourself in person to replace your voting card. The replacement of voting card will not be considered a new voter’s registration exercise, but simply to accord you the constitutional right to vote.

Your failure between June 13 and 27, 2011 to proceed to a Magistrate office in the county you registered in to obtain a new voter’s card, will deny you the opportunity to vote in the forthcoming referendum and the presidential and legislative elections.

Don’t be asked the question: “Where were you when the leadership of Liberia was being elected?” then as a true Liberian, you have no patriotic response. Remember that Liberia is our common patrimony. As a Liberian, once you live here and pay taxes, you must contribute your quotas by going to the polls in deciding who should be your leader. This can only be done if you are a registered voter with legitimate voter’s cards to vote. Let us therefore make better use of NEC’s invitation by replacing our lost voter’s cards to enable us fully participate in this year’s elections in the country.

Finally, NEC is saying that replacing your lost or damaged Registration Card “shows your commitment to voting during the 2011 Referendum and Elections.” Replacement centers have been instructed by NEC to open from 8:00 AM to 4:00PM beginning June 13 to 27, 2011.
