 Chairman Korkoya Receives Award from Nigerian Delegation July 7th, 2017

Monrovia, July 7, 2017----A 16-man Nigerian delegation today presented a wooden placard to the Chairman and members of the Board of Commissioners (BOC) of the National Elections Commission (NEC) for their remarkable role in handling the affairs of the Commission.

The Nigerian delegation, under the banner of the Nigerian Institute for Security Studies, consists of representatives from several Federal Government Agencies in Nigeria.

The delegation, who is in the country as a guest of the Liberian Foreign Service Institute (FSI), was accompanied to the Commission by FSI Director General Dr. Augustine Konneh.

In remarks, NEC chairman Jerome Korkoya thanked the delegation for the recognition. Using the occasion to brief the Nigerians on the current state of the 2017 election process, Chairman Korkoya emphasized the need to have an informed Liberian electorates to avoid electoral malpractices.  

Speaking on the Legal Framework of the Commission, Cllr. Korkoya said the NEC will continue to work within the confines of the law. He also spoke on the current Candidate Nomination process, the Code of Conduct, the 30% women representation in political parties and the direct funding from the Liberian Government.

Chairman Korkoya also spoke of financial assistance from the United States Agency for International Development, USAID, United Nations Development Program, UNDP, African Union, ECOWAS, and the Carter Center among others.
