 Progressive Provisional Candidates Listing July 14th, 2017

In keeping with its electoral calendar, the National Elections Commission (NEC) has released the Provisional Candidate Listing.

The Listing is Progressive primary based on the fact that NEC, with the overwhelming endorsement of the Inter-Party Consultative Committee (IPCC), has extended by 10 days the candidate nomination process at the SKD Sports Complex. 

Modestly put: the Provisional Listing remains Progressive up to the end of the nomination period, followed by Final Listing.

Meanwhile, the Commission is urging accepted candidates to begin picking up their acceptance notices by Monday July 17, 2017 from 9am to 5pm at the SKD Sports Complex.

In an emergency IPCC meeting on Tuesday July 11, 2017, registered political parties awesomely accepted the Commission’s decision to extend the candidate nomination by 10days. The meeting held at the Monrovia Christian Fellowship, adjacent the Commission, drew 36 participants including international partners.

The Commission’s reliance for the extension was rooted in solidarity to female candidates participation in election process in relation to 30% gender balance and the political parties’ requirement of feeding no more than 50% of candidate seats up for grasp (check 4.5 (1a&b) of the New Election Law).

The Commission also considered the current legal process at the Supreme Court of Liberia involving the NEC and aspirants Abu Kamara, Harrison Karnwea and Jeremiah Sulunteh.
