Run-Off Ballot Papers in Liberia October 29th, 2017

With nine days to the run-off election between the Unity Party (UP) and the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), ballot papers have arrived in the Country.

The presidential ballot papers arrived from Slovenia on Saturday October 28, 2017 at the Roberts International Airport at 4pm.

The ballots were later conveyed to a saved location under heavy security escort by officers of the Liberia National Police.

NEC Chairman Jerome Korkoya on last Wednesday, at the Commission’s weekly press conference, promised the ballot papers would have come in the country on October 28.

The run-off election will take place on Tuesday November 7, 2017 between the CDC and the UP, which accumulated the highest number of votes of the 20 presidential candidates in the first round of voting on October 10, 2017.

The second round of election on November 7 will fulfill the legal requirement of 50 plus one percent if a particular candidate is to be declared winner. Both CDC and UP felt short of that requirement.

Of the total vote cast, CDC recorded 38.4%, while UP got 28.8%. The rest of the 20 candidates felt short of 10% of the total votes.
