NEC New Commissioner Takes Office September 8th, 2015
Commissioner Boakai Dukuly of the National Elections Commission (NEC) has underscored the need for the commission to continuously execute its statutory obligations in concert with the laws of the Republic of Liberia. Commissioner Dukuly said applying the election laws, regulations and the Constitution in all of the Commission’s work will continue to enhance and maintain the integrity of the Commission despite the challenges it currently faces. Speaking Monday, September 7, 2015 at an official welcoming program held in his honor by the NEC at the headquarters of the Commission in Monrovia, Commissioner Boakai said the Commission is at a political crossroad, and must be willing to accept criticisms, condemnations as well as praises from the public. Speaking earlier, NEC Chairman Jerome G. Korkorya said the NEC was happy to receive Commissioner Dukuly at a time when the Commission is preparing for two important electoral events-the 2016 Constitutional Referendum and the 2017 Legislative and Presidential Elections. Chairman Korkoya expressed the hope that Commissioner Dukuly who is a lawyer, will provide his expertise in the conduct of these very important electoral processes. Commissioner Dukuly is a graduate of the Louise Arthur Grimes School of Law at the University of Liberia and holds a Master of Law Degree from Virginia University in the United States of America. Prior to his appointment as Commissioner of NEC, Mr. Boakai worked as Vice Chairman of the Independent National Commission on Human Rights. He replaces Commissioner Asumanah Kromah who died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 in the United States of America following a period of protracted illness. The appointment of Commissioner Boakai Dukuly completes the 7-member Board of Commissioners at the country’s Elections Management Body.
