European Union and UNDP Support Election Complaints Resolution Trainin October 31st, 2016

The National Elections Commission (NEC) with support of the European Union and the UNDP Election Project has concluded a two-week training for 19 Elections Magistrates focusing on the NEC's election complaints resolution mechanism.

The training  which took place in Gbarnga, Bong County, from 17th to 28th October, 2016, was held in 2 phases and attended by 10 and 9 Magistrates respectively.

The sessions were geared at training the Magistrates to build their capacity for effective hearing of complaints that would evolve following the upcoming Presidential and Legislative elections in 2017.

In 2016, the NEC adopted Hearing Procedures and Complaint Regulations which spell out the stages of the election complaint adjudication process.

The training was facilitated by the NEC Hearing and Legal Sections and the European Union and UNDP Elections Project Legal Consultant.

It can be recalled that early August, similar workshops were held for civil society, political parties, and members of the Liberia National Bar Association and senior staff of the NEC.
