Referendum Campaign

The National Elections Commission (NEC) announces that in keeping with its key electoral dates for the conduct of the National Referendum, it is now receiving application from political parties, civil society organizations and other groups interested in campaigning for or against any of the issues of the referendum.

The deadline for the submission of applications by interested group (s) is Wednesday, April 20, 2011.
The Commission wishes to inform interested campaign groups that Article 9.1 of the Referendum Regulations states that “any political party or civil society organization duly accredited by the NEC as supporting or opposing any issue of the referendum, may campaign to either support or oppose a referendum issue during the campaign period.”
The campaign period for the upcoming national referendum will start on May 1, 2011 and ends at 12:00 midnight on August 22, 2011. Campaign activities shall cease twenty-four hours before the day of the Referendum on August 23, 2011.
This announcement should claim the attention of all political parties, civil society and community based organizations and interest groups wishing to campaign for or against any of the four referendum issues.
