NEC, MOF Announce Measures to Speedup Candidate Nomination

The National Elections Commission (NEC) wishes to announce that in a bid to assist aspirants reduce the processing time for nomination requirements, the Bureau of Internal Revenue, Ministry of Finance has put in place several measures to fast track the processing of tax clearance and the payment of Candidate Nomination Fees.

The measures include:  the establishment of the Ministry of Finance Election Help Desk at the Candidate Nomination Center at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex. The MOF Election Help Desk will assist aspirants with information about tax clearance procedures and payment of nomination fees. It will also provide a checklist of taxes to be satisfied by aspirants.

In addition, the number staff at the Election Help Office at the Ministry of Finance has been increased and the working hours extended from 4:00pm to 7:30pm Monday to Friday; Saturday 10:00am to 3:00pm; and Sunday 3:00pm to 7pm.

Furthermore, a Notary Judge is now available at the Nomination Center to process affidavit of citizenship and domicile for aspirants.

With these measures in place, the NEC appeals to all political parties and independent aspirants to take advantage and to endeavor to complete their nomination by August 15, 2011.
